Breakdown Beauty Paintout Shot

Personal Project

My goal with this project was to make use of Nukes SmartVectors and make a paintout on an organic moving surface.

To get to my paintout, I tried to retain as much of the skin's detail as possible, including in the newly painted spots in the face. I accomplished this by using a high-frequency and low-frequency separation technique and clone stamping my way trough each pass individually. I did this on several frames for different parts of the face where the most details were visible, and then made cutouts of these patches to bring them back onto my original footage using the movement from the SmartVectors, baked on a StMap. To ensure these patches work over the whole range seamlessly, I needed to animate some color correcting nodes, match the defocus, and generate fitting motion blur.

With this accomplished, I made a new separation between high and low-frequency patterns and adjusted the low-frequency part to achieve a cleaner and smoother skin appearance. Additionally, I removed some spots and a scar on the nose.
